One thing a homeowner has in abundance is electricity. That's why battery-operated weed trimmers are in high demand. One thing homeowners DO NOT have is patience- repeated pulling on a unit that does not start gets into someone's nerves very easily. So WHY on earth does Troy-Bilt not improve on and market Press 2 Start on more product lines? It works!! I do have to run it on idle for 1-2 min before using it, but other than that, this is by far the most reliable gas-powered device I own! I have gotten so far as not priming the unit and viola! It still runs like a champ. Like any engine, it does need maintenance and I do my fair share of the job. I only gave it 4 stars though because like above, I agree it 's kinda hard to pull- start on certain days. That's why I LOVE Press 2 Start. The first one straight out of the box would not start without the electric starter. When it did start, it stalled. I called Troy, and they said most likely valve adjustment issues, not covered by warranty. They recommended taking it to a shop they sponsored, but if it's the valves, I have to pay for the repair. Irritated, I disassembled the item, drained the gas and exchanged it for the same model. The second one worked a thousand times better, but now it's starting to do the same thing. Without the electric starter, this product is useless. If you can get it started, it runs great. I spent an hour this morning trying to pull start it, and never got it running. This trimmer is 4 cycle so its heavier but this you can feel before you buy which is your choice. What you can't see or know before you buy is how incredibly bad the line feeder design is. You have to constantly take it apart and its not easy and very time consuming once the line is inside the head. The aggravation factor is high so unless you want to make your yard work extremely irritating buy one of these at $199 and make sure you also buy a large bottle of super strength aspirin because you will need them.I also have a Troy Bilt mower and blower and have no complains about them: just this one trimmer. |
